What Houston Immigration Attorneys are Doing about The Travel Ban

Houston Attorney for Airport Detainees

The executive order signed by Donald Trump on Friday, January 27, 2017 banning nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, for at least 90 days is unconstitutional.

The executive order lists the aforementioned countries as countries of concern"; however, the list is expected to expand as the administration has considered this only a "starting" point.

Besides the obvious intent of Trump's executive order to implement a religious test for admission to the U.S., the ban including valid visa holders and permanent residents (or green card holders).

Since the implementation of the executive order, several permanent residents have been detained at airports across the U.S., including Houston, New York, and Washington D.C.

On Saturday, January 28, 2017 a Federal judge issued  a temporary stay of the executive order; however, the stay only had a limited effect and only applied to individuals detained at the time of the stay.
