Southern Arkansas University Recognizes Former Holland Law Firm, PLLC Intern for Work in Bronx Public Schools
Jalen Holland joined the Holland Law Firm, PLLC team in the Summer of 2017 as a summer intern. Mr. Holland went on to complete an eight-week internship with the New York City Department of Education.
Jalen was selected out of hundreds of applicants across the country. In fact, he was the only individual selected from the Ark-La-Tex (Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas) area.
Students Should Know Who You Are, If You Want Them to Be Open to You
When interviewed about his experience in Bronx Public Schools, Mr. Holland stated the following:
“It is important for African-American males to go into teaching. I tried to represent my community and my University in the classroom, every day. I knew I needed to be open and to share things about myself. Some of my students had never been outside the Bronx. They wanted to know everything about me. You have to be open as a future educator. Students should know who you are, if you want them to be open with you.”
Mr. Holland plans to teach social studies in the public schools. He hopes to one day open his own charter school. “I want to make sure students have the tools, the staff, and the passion to pursue their dreams. I want to push young African-Americans to go to school and graduate. I want them to excel because they are the future.”
Jalen Holland is a junior education major at Southern Arkansas University and a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
